In Genesis 19, we read about how God was ready to destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of their overwhelming sin. This was heartbreaking for God because He created these people to love Him, yet they were constantly seeking ways to sin against Him. Despite this, God made a promise to Lot and his family that He would save them. However, He gave them a crucial instruction: “DON’T LOOK BACK.”
“But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.” (Genesis 19:26)
Lot’s wife looked back, directly disobeying God’s command. By doing so, she showed that she was more attached to her past than to the future God had planned for her. Tragically, she lost her future by looking back.
In our own waiting seasons, God may have made us a promise, but to move forward with that promise, we must let go of the past. I know this is easier said than done—I’ve struggled with this myself. I understand what it’s like to lie awake at night, replaying negative words that others have spoken to me. I know the fear that comes from past experiences, holding us back from taking action.
Rehearsing the past can be destructive. It paralyzes us and keeps us from moving forward. Remember, everything God has for you is ahead, not behind. If you want to embrace the new, you have to let go of the old.
I encourage you to conquer your past by focusing on your future. Let’s move forward together, embracing the promises God has for us. Everything God has in store is waiting for us to step into it—without looking back.

Discussion Questions:
1. What are some ways you find yourself "looking back" on the past, and how does it affect your ability to move forward?
2. How can trusting in God's promises help you let go of past hurts and fears?
Action Step:
This week, take a few moments each day to pray and ask God to help you release any past experiences or negative thoughts that are holding you back. Write down one promise or positive affirmation about your future and keep it where you can see it daily as a reminder to focus on what lies ahead.
