Do you live in the "Land of What If?" Most chronic anxiety sufferers do. If you live in this land, have you noticed the "what if" does not have a positive ending? It's always a 911, always the worst case scenario. On the scientific end, you are creating neural pathways of which your brain will regularly go to. This is how you make good or bad habits. Neurons that fire together wire together (Hebb's Rule.)
On the nonscientific end, you are pretty much fortunetelling. Trying to predict your future. You are catastrophizing events that haven’t happened. Trying to have some kind of control over the events. “Maybe if I worry on this a whole bunch, I’ll be able to figure a way out of it, or I’ll at least be prepared for it, or…”
Then there is the spiritual side of the “Land of What If.”
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8) NIV.
The devil will take every opportunity to interject negative, fearful thoughts that he can. He’s like an annoying mosquito buzzing around looking for a little spot to bite. But God has given us the weapons we need to squash that mosquito.
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. (2 Corinthians 10:4) ESV.
When our thinking veers, off we need to do a Philippians 4:8 turn-about. It’s hard to wrangle those negative thoughts, but God tells us in His Word what we should think on. God can give you the tools you need to not let anxiety rule and reign. He knows you individually and He will meet you right there. He knows what you need to come out of living in this perpetual state of mental chaos. He is the source of all help and healing.
