It doesn’t matter how old or young you are—God can do anything! Here’s some encouragement for you:
- At 4 years old, Shirley Temple began her film career, and three years later she received an Academy Award.
- At age 18, Cassius Clay, later named Muhammad Ali, won the light heavyweight boxing gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games.
- At age 20, Debbie Fields founded Mrs. Fields Cookie Company.
- At age 42, Joyce Meyer launched her whirlwind ministry in Fenton, Missouri.
- At age 52, Leonardo da Vinci completed the “Mona Lisa.”
- At age 72, Michelangelo designed St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
- At age 83, Winston Churchill completed "A History of the English-Speaking Peoples."
- At age 90, Sarah had Isaac (Abraham was 100).
- At age 100, Teiichi Igarashi climbed Mount Fuji.
I hope these stories encourage you! When you are in a waiting season, it can be hard to keep the faith. You're just waiting, and all you see day to day is your external circumstance. I remember a pastor telling me once, "When you have no faith, borrow someone else's faith." As crazy as that sounded to me, that’s what I began to do. I would read stories of people with audacious faith, and it stirred up my spirit. I felt inspired and would say, "If God can do it for them, He can surely do it for me!" With God, nothing is impossible.
Maybe you are in Genesis 18:12 right now, laughing and thinking there is no way what you are waiting for could happen. It can and it will happen if God made that promise. I want to encourage you to look internally instead of externally. When you look within yourself, you can sense the Holy Spirit nurturing your faith. By staying connected to this inner presence for a while, you eventually feel peace when you turn your attention to the outside world. Sure, you are still going to see that circumstance, but your perspective is different. You know inside that this will change, so you can live your day to day clinging to faith and peace.
To truly look internally, make sure you are spending time with Jesus every day! Read your Bible, pray, worship, and more. There is power in His presence. He will ignite that faith that maybe feels dim to you right now. He will become your best friend. He will share His heart with you just like He did with Abraham in Genesis 18:16-33, and when you walk closely with God, you can openly talk to Him just like Abraham did. Always cling to Jesus.
Now, you’ll find a set of discussion questions. I encourage you to share your thoughts and answers in the comments section. You can explore these questions on your own, with a friend, or both. Discussion Questions
1. Can you think of a time when you felt your faith was weak? How did you overcome it, or how can you apply the idea of "borrowing someone else's faith" to your situation now?
2. Reflect on a promise or hope you are waiting for. How can focusing internally on your relationship with God help you maintain peace and faith during this waiting period?
Action Step
This week, commit to spending dedicated time with Jesus each day. Whether it’s reading your Bible, praying, worshiping, or simply sitting in His presence, make it a priority. Write down any insights, feelings, or words you receive during this time and reflect on how they strengthen your faith and change your perspective on your current circumstances.
